New Streambox Products at GV Expo:

Streambox Kit (NOMAD-VBS)
Streambox will be showing a NOMAD-VBS kit at GV Expo 2009. The Streambox kit is a public affairs SD/HD video record, video edit, and video streaming tool box. The device weighs 35 pounds and is FAA approved for carry-on commercial airlines. With the Streambox kit you can transmit critical information from anywhere in the world and stream the video back to a network or multiple network control rooms. The tool box is extremely mobile and incorporates field-based software tools to produce quality SD/HD over low bandwidth and on-the-spot video editing.

Streambox HD/SD Video on a Mac® Laptop
HD newsgathering from a Mac® laptop will be demonstrated at Streambox’s booth at GV Expo 2009. Streambox and Matrox have integrated Matrox’s MX02 SDI device with the Streambox® ACT-L3™ software encoder to enable SDI-based video capture and streaming for Mac OS® laptops running Streambox encoding software. The Streambox encoder enables mobile reporters to gather, edit, and stream high-quality video over low-data-rate IP connections — making it a powerful solution for newsgathering from a variety of locations. Until now, mobile reporters were limited by their laptops to ingesting only digital video via a FireWire® connection. With the addition of the portable MX02 unit, the laptop encoder can ingest SDI video, resulting in much higher picture quality. This helps news organizations differentiate themselves from competitors as they provide higher quality breaking news video to viewers.

Streambox® Live™ — Broadband Video Contribution
At GV Expo 2009, Streambox will demonstrate Streambox® Live™, an innovative broadband video contribution service. It enables broadcasters to enhance breaking news stories with ad hoc broadcasting content supplied by a variety of contributors including video journalists, stringers, and citizen reporters. At the front end, the cornerstone of this scalable software-based solution is the Streambox® Live™ encoder, which is made available at no cost to contributors affiliated with broadcast groups and local television stations.

At the back end, broadcasters subscribing to the Streambox® Live™ service are able to manage, track, and view unlimited amounts of video uploads from contributors. The broadcaster can also manage digital rights for video contributions and search for relevant video clips using metadata information. The broadcaster pays for decoded video only.

Streambox® SBT3-9300 HD/SD Video Transport System
Streambox is demonstrating the 1RU Streambox® SBT3-9300 HD/SD video transport system at GV Expo 2009. The SBT3-9300 system is used for HD/SD newsgathering, broadcasting, and video post production. The SBT3-9300 can be operated in HD or SD mode, enabling the user to capture, transmit, and play live and file-based video. The system provides stunning 1080i/720p/1080psf HD video at data rates from 512 Kbps to 30 Mbps and SD video from 64 Kbps to 15 Mbps.

The SBT3-9300 system has been developed to meet the performance and quality requirements of customers in a variety of industry sectors. Movie and post production companies, for example, can use the SBT3-9300 to transmit high-quality live HD and SD video over low-data-rate IP networks as a way to accelerate and enhance editing processes such as color correction. With the Streambox solution, video editors are able to transmit the edited video file over IP in real time for immediate review and approval from clients who may be located in different time zones and perhaps even on different continents. Using the SBT3-9300 makes this part of the post production process much more efficient and cost-effective.

Streambox® SBT3-9500 HD/SD Video Transport Encoder
Streambox is showing the small-form-factor Streambox® SBT3-9500 HD/SD encoder at GV Expo 2009. The innovative solution enables broadcasters to do live and file-based newsgathering, video transport, and acquisition in HD and SD. The SBT3-9500 is integrated into one lightweight and portable solution, making it ideal for encoding mission critical video over low-cost, low-data-rate IP networks such as 3G, WiFi, WIMAX, and the Internet. The versatile HD/SD encoder is typically deployed to field crews for low–data-rate newsgathering. It features two and a half hours of battery life, and it can also run on a car battery. The encoder works seamlessly with the breadth of Streambox’s video management and playout systems.
