Streambox to Launch Japan Office

Streambox Japan Will Expand Company’s Japanese Presence and Bolster Support for Local Customers

SEATTLE — Nov. 15, 2009Streambox, Inc. today announced a significant expansion of its presence in the Pacific Rim with the opening of a new office in Tokyo. Streambox Japan will enable the company to concentrate sales efforts on new opportunities in the Japanese market for its award-winning IP video transport and acquisition platform, as well as to provide optimum support for its Japanese customer base.

“Japan is far ahead of many other markets in terms of its adoption of HD technologies, but broadcasters are also looking for cost-effective solutions. Therefore, we believe the Japanese market is primed for Streambox products — such as our HD/SD software-based encoder that can transform a laptop into a powerful tool for live and file-based HD newsgathering over IP. And, our new Streambox® Live™ service provides a versatile and lower-cost alternative for field reporters to stream live video using a variety of portable devices,” said Bob Hildeman, chairman and CEO of Streambox. “Streambox Japan will position us to expand our presence in this vital marketplace while offering better-than-ever service to our Japanese customers.”

One such Japanese customer is NHK. The broadcaster recently adopted the Streambox® SBT3-9500 video transport solution for IP-based newsgathering from a number of locations around the world that have traditionally proved challenging for contribution of high-quality video due to network limitations. NHK deployed the small-form-factor hybrid HD/SD encoders to its field reporters and foreign bureaus along with video management and playout systems at its Tokyo-based headquarters.

Based on Streambox’s award-winning ACT-L3™ technology, the Streambox® Live™ service enables broadcasters and citizen reporters to transmit live video streams to broadcast studios through 3G, 4G, wired and wireless networks to Internet-based Streambox® Live™ Data Centers. The Streambox® Live™ service interoperates seamlessly with Streambox’s industry-leading platform of SD and HD broadcast-quality video encoders and decoders, as well as its complete line of broadcast and distribution servers.

Hiroshi Hasegawa, a former manager with Microsoft®, has been named president of Streambox Japan. The new office is expected to be open for business by late November. Streambox Japan will exhibit at the Inter BEE 2009 in Tokyo, Nov. 18-20. More information about Streambox® ACT-L3™ encoding solutions is available online at www.streambox.com.
