Severe Weather in Canada Streamed On Air with Streambox Live

globalWhen severe winter weather strikes, broadcasters often find it hard to get video out of remote areas.  A satellite truck is very expensive and cannot always navigate the roads in winter conditions.  Global TV in Canada was able to use Streambox Live to solve this problem.

Earlier this month, when a major winter storm hit Ontario; Global TV decided to use a stringer to capture the footage rather than dedicate satellite trucks or other resources to attain video.  Using Streambox Live, the stringer reporter was able to capture footage of the storm and the effects it had on the roads.  All he needed was the free Streambox Live software encoder on his laptop, his camera and an IP Network.  As the video was captured, the stringer was able to send it at a high quality over 3G. The stream then went directly on the air for the live nightly news program.

This story is a great example of how broadcasters can get more video out of their stringers using Streambox Live.   Because the software is free, you can easily give it to people who work for you on an ad-hoc basis.  See a clip of the video that was shot below:
