The Seattle Marathon Association held their annual race in Seattle on November 29th. The event consisted of a full marathon, half marathon, 5K, as well as a kids run. It was important to provide high quality video of the finish line for friends and family of the runners to view on the Seattle Marathon homepage.
Streambox Live provided backhaul of the video to the Flash encoder for the website. One of the challenges with web video encoding from live events is the increase in unforeseen problems. Having a flexible and easy to use solution like Streambox Live will help eliminate some of the variables at live events.
In general, web encoding technology is susceptible to packet loss. Streambox Live solves this problem with its FEC and robust video transport. Streambox Live’s features get video through uncertain networks to a data center where the web encoder is installed. Broadcast quality SDI video from the Streambox decoder is encoded for web. Web video leaves the data center under known good networking conditions on its way to the CDN.
Anyone involved in producing web video of live events should take a serious look at how Streambox Live can help.
