Now, once the Local button is pushed on an incoming live stream, the video is automatically routed directly to their Streambox Media Player for viewing, with no manual input needed. Local Play creates a simpler and faster way for users to play live streams on their desktop.

Streambox® today announced that its Streambox Live™ broadband video contribution service provided a vital communications link for 13-year-old climber Jordan Romero’s ascent of Mount Everest. Romero, the youngest person ever to attempt and reach the summit of the world’s highest peak, used the service to send up-to-the-minute, high-quality video reports of his progress from various locations on the mountain — one of which was included in CNN’s broadcast coverage of the expedition.

Read the latest issue of Sat Magazine to learn how CBC used Streambox to broadcast a reporters return from kidnapping in Somalia. Canadian freenlance reporter Amanda Lindhout was reporting on the confict in Somalia when they were taken captive by gunmen in August of 2008. Over one year later, in November of 2009, she was finally set to be released. CBC was on scene with a Streambox ACT-L3 Portable Video Transport Solution and sent over a BGAN satellite connection from Inmarsat.

WTVT, Fox Tampa, went up to Pensacola, FL to cover the BP oil spill on the East Coast using Streambox to report live. Chris Chmura reports on the oil slick and the tar balls that are washing up on the beaches, as well as concerning issues such as the tourism, cleaning of the sand, and the off-shore sheen. Video was captured and transmitted via DV to Streambox Mac Portable Laptop Encoder.
