Streambox Used to Bring Coverage of Bosnian Election

Streambox was featured in the latest edition of the Voice of America’s (VOA) Buzz Newsletter which discussed the use of Streambox for bringing back election coverage from Bosnia for the first time.

VOA’s Bosnian Service coverage of the October 3rd election marked a first for the service, a remote anchor was brought into the program live from Sarajevo via Streambox. Bosnian Service Chief Dzeilana Pecanin says, “Having an anchor in Bosnia for this crucial election was important and audience participation added great value to the show.” Because they were using Streambox and didn’t need a satellite connection, the service saved a bundle of dough despite the high-tech look of the program.

In addition, Streambox also brought coverage of the 100th Anaversary of Mother Theresa’s birth last month.

The Albanian Service marked the 100th anniversary of Mother Teresa’s birth last week, with a special edition of its popular Ditari program that took maximum advantage of Streambox technology to bring two live interviews into the show, including one from Kosovo. Albanian Service Chief, Arben Xhixho, felt good about the program, but says it’s “a challenge working with newer technology.” Streambox is a web-based software program that allows live video streaming, and is a much cheaper option to satellite feeds. Other divisions are also making increased use of the technology. The special on Mother Teresa covered everything from the celebrations in her native Albania to a special message from Pope Benedict.

These applications show how Streambox products give users the ability to capture live or file-based video from remote locations, where previous coverage was very expensive because a satellite connection was required.
