Streambox® today announced that its StreamboxME (Mobile Encoder) smartphone streaming application is now available for the iPhone® 4, as well as iPhone 3GS phones that have been upgraded to the iOS 4 operating system. With StreamboxME, iPhone users are able to stream high-quality video over the AT&T 3G network via the Streambox Live™ broadband video contribution service, where the video may be accessed by broadcasters, news organizations, government agencies, and enterprises. StreamboxME for iPhone 4 includes several new features recently added to Streambox Live, which offers a groundbreaking approach to field newsgathering and video capture.
KOMO 4 News, the Seattle ABC affiliate and Fisher Subsidiary, became the first news station to use Streambox Avenir live on-air. Streambox Avenir is an HD/SD broadcasting device that allows users to send live and file-based video from hard to reach locations that satellite trucks cannot go. The device can route live video through the Streambox Live Server or stream on-air for live broadcast. With battery power and the ability to bond up to eight 3G/4G wireless data cards, KOMO exhibited that Avenir is the ideal solution for field newsgathering and reporting where breaking news is happening.
By having our servers synched through a database, it gives remote users the ability to stream to the server nearest them, not necessarily the same server that the broadcaster is connected to. This improves the quality of both sending video and receiving video by cutting the distance that the video stream needs to travel.
Now, once the Local button is pushed on an incoming live stream, the video is automatically routed directly to their Streambox Media Player for viewing, with no manual input needed. Local Play creates a simpler and faster way for users to play live streams on their desktop.
Streambox® today announced that its Streambox Live™ broadband video contribution service provided a vital communications link for 13-year-old climber Jordan Romero’s ascent of Mount Everest. Romero, the youngest person ever to attempt and reach the summit of the world’s highest peak, used the service to send up-to-the-minute, high-quality video reports of his progress from various locations on the mountain — one of which was included in CNN’s broadcast coverage of the expedition.
