Idaho Public Television Deploys Streambox ACT-L3™ Video Transport Over IP Network To Feed Dish Network Aggregation Site

Streambox Was Selected For Reliable Real-time Delivery Of Broadcast Video Over Public IP Network With Large Packet Loss

June 14, 2004 Seattle, WA – Streambox Inc, The leader in video compression and video over IP solutions for TV Broadcasters, announces the deployment by Idaho PTV after extensive field trials. The Streambox ACT-L3™ system with advanced error correction technology is able to cancel and recover large amounts of burst error loss from an unreliable public network and deliver smooth video playback.

“We are very satisfied by the performance and the reliability of the Streambox solution over an unreliable public network for delivery of high quality digital television programming to the Dish Network aggregation site.” said Rich Van Genderen, Director of Technology for Idaho PTV, “ Besides the system performance and good quality video, the Streambox solution with real-time display of packet loss and packet recovery gave us the information needed to trouble shoot network problems.”

“We are pleased to provide Idaho PBS with our advanced ACT-L3™ Encoder and Decoder and to solve IP based video delivery problems over an unreliable public network ” said Bob Hildeman, Chairman and CEO of Streambox, “We appreciate Idaho PTV for working with us and providing a real world opportunity to proof our packet error correction technology. The solution to recover and cancel packet loss from a burst error is a central issue for successful delivery of broadcast video over packet based networks.”

The Streambox ACT-L3™ Video Transport System is shipped with Microsoft Windows XP Embedded Operating System and is fully software upgradeable with a solid-state hard disk, ensuring an ease of maintenance, upgrade, reliability and fault tolerance. The ACT-L3™ codec relies on Intel(R) Pentium 4 processors with Hyperthreading technology to encode real-time interlaced video at 30fps with automatic closed-captioning support. Built in Advanced Quality of Service (QoS) systems include remote management, Forward Error Correction (FEC) and error cancellation, burst error protection, bandwidth shaping, and automated self-healing signal reconnect and restart. Streambox ACT-L3™ Codec is used in numerous real-time applications where interlaced broadcast and DVD quality video is required at low bitrates and low end-to-end video latency is mandatory. ACT-L3™ applications include TV broadcasting, satellite, Tele-medicine, wireless, film and video production and as well as desktop PC and Macintosh systems.
