Streambox to demonstrate ACT-L3™ Portable Live Digital Newsgathering System (DNGS) for Satellite, Wireless and IP Based Networks at NAB 2004
Powerful Real-Time Broadcast Quality Video Encoding and Delivery System with Advanced Forward Error Correction (FEC) and Packet Rate Shaping for Apple® PowerBook™ G4 based systems
SEATTLE, WA March, 22 2004 - The leader in video compression and real-time video solutions for TV Broadcasters will demonstrate the most advanced portable digital newsgathering (DNG) system for field news crews at the National Association of Broadcasters convention in Las Vegas.
"We are pleased to offer this powerful portable newsgathering solution that can be utilized for both real-time as well as store and forward newsgathering" said Bob Hildeman, CEO of Streambox, Inc. " Broadcasters are already using ACT-L3™ Video Transport devices as a stationary real-time video contribution and distribution solution all over the world on variety of network types and configurations. Now they can take advantage of our high quality video and an advanced technology for smooth video delivery on a portable form factor for live news gathering."
Streambox Portable DNG solutions consist of two primary applications for newsgathering, a real-time encoding and transport application for live video delivery and ACT-L3™ QuickTime codec for off-line store and forward encoding. The QuickTime component allows seamless integration with existing NLE packages and output devices.
The live video feeds are received as contribution videos in the broadcast studios on ACT-L3™ Video Transport Mac G5 decoder or Intel/XP based decoder systems with SDI or base-band video output.
The Apple PowerBooks is an all-in one lightweight system that provides news crews with the ability to transmit live news feeds and edit video that can be sent offline. PowerBooks are already in use by journalists for communications, video editing and writing, so no additional equipment is required.
The key features of the Streambox ACT-L3™ Portable Video Transport System are:
Real-time compression of 1/2 D1 (352x480i) interlaced video 30 fps on a PowerBook G4 with a 1.25 Ghz CPU or higher. The system supports full D1 resolution at 15 fps and higher.
The ACT-L3™ Codec produces high quality video transmissions at data rates as low as 64 kbps and higher over IP, sat-phones, 802.11 and 3G wireless networks. Optimal full resolution broadcast quality is available with IP satellite systems or land-based DSL lines.
Live DV Video capture from camera via Firewire input.
Works seamlessly with existing NLE editing software such as Apple's Final Cut Pro.™
Advanced Forward Error Correction technology recovers and cancels packet loss and overcomes jitter and buffering.
Bandwidth shaping technology controls and prevents video overflow at satellites, routers and network switches for smooth video delivery.
The ACT-L3™ Mobile Video Transport G4 & G5 will begin shipping April 2004.
The Intel® based Streambox ACT-L3™ Video Transport System began shipping in January 2003 following three and a half years in product development.
