Streambox Releases Integrated Application for Digital Video Surveillance and Conferencing

Streambox Everywhere™ provides seamless operation of common corporate video functions

April 23, 2002 Seattle , WA - Streambox Inc. announced today immediate availability of its Everywhere corporate digital video solution. Everywhere is an integrated PC client, video encoder, and network server package that seamlessly integrates the major corporate video functions into a digital network that can span the office, campus, and world. Everywhere provides a single system solution for most corporate video including conferencing, security surveillance, safety monitoring, video broadcasting and video-on-demand.

Everywhere is the direct result of Streambox' unique expertise in developing video codecs, combined with large scale systems development experience. According to Bob Hildeman, Chairman and CEO, "Everywhere was the direct result of our valued partnership with Toyo Engineering Corporation of Tokyo , Japan . In there work engineering large systems for their industrial clients in Japan , they recognized the need for a single video platform to handle industrial monitoring, security surveillance, and video conferencing. They came to us to develop the solution."

To meet the needs of this demanding market, Streambox developed a new codec, called RMS. RMS is a real time video codec that encodes video four times faster and compresses it to as little as one third the size of the most often used off-the-shelf codec. Everywhere is capable of handling more video streams at once and reduces storage and processing costs. Customers can deploy Everywhere on their existing low powered PC's, without having to upgrade.

RMS encodes each video frame independent of the rest of the frames, making it especially suitable for transmission over the public Internet. While other compression schemes can loose tens or hundreds of video frames when a packet gets lost, RMS loses only the single frame associated with the packet. And RMS scales to virtually any network bandwidth without having to re-encode the bit stream. A single encoding can be streamed at multiple bit rates simultaneously.

Everywhere includes a client application that can monitor hundreds of network cameras, displaying up to four remote cameras at a time, and simultaneously encode video and audio from one to four connected cameras. Users can monitor the cameras or use them for video conferencing for up to five individuals/conference rooms at once.

Everywhere Enterprise Server component provides for central serving of all video streams, records video streams (to disk) on command, and serves stored video streams to clients. A typical Enterprise Server is capable of serving 50 simultaneous streams and can be replicated to scale the system larger.
