Streambox Newsgathering Solution Wins
TV Technology STAR Award at IBC2006

SEATTLE Sept. 26, 2006 Streambox, Inc. today announced that its SBT3-7500 Video Transport solution was honored at IBC2006 with a TV Technology STAR (Superior Technology Award Recipient) Award. Recognized at the show as one of the industry’s preeminent video transport technologies, the Streambox newsgathering system gives broadcasters a new level of agility in delivering high-quality live video from even the most remote or challenging locations.

“The TV Technology STAR Award is designed to celebrate and showcase technological innovations that add substantively to the broadcast industry, and we’re pleased that our SBT3-7500 was recognized as such a product,” said Bob Hildeman, chairman and CEO at Streambox. “We’ve seen it improve not only the visual quality of live world news coverage, but also the ability of broadcasters to deliver reports rapidly over IP-based networks, directly from the scene, as events unfold. It has raised the bar for remote news reporting.”

The compact and lightweight Streambox SBT3-7500 is an integrated solution for transmission of video via Inmarsat’s BGAN satellite network, via broadband, or over other available IP networks such as DSL, local Wi-Fi hotspots, or hotel Internet connections. The system gives news staff much greater flexibility in reporting news and covering significant events worldwide.

In the field, the “plug-and-connect” encoder is used together with a BGAN terminal to transmit video and audio live broadcast. The video transport system is built on the Streambox ACT-L3™ codec and advanced proprietary video compression technology, which enable broadcasters to use cost-effective packet-based networks in the real-time delivery of full-motion, full-frame interlaced broadcast video and audio. An increasing number of news reports delivered via broadband are powered by Streambox newsgathering solutions.

The complete newsgathering solution from Streambox includes portable and rackmount encoders and decoders, real-time and store-and-forward systems for field and bureau reporting, back-end systems for managing live video streams and back-channel real-time communications systems. It also includes IFB servers, distribution servers, and store-and-forward subsystems.

The Streambox systems provide much higher video compression and quality at low data rates than competing systems. Advanced forward error correction and burst error correction manage, control, and recover packet loss and correct video-delivery irregularities inherent in satellite and IP-based networks.
