Streambox® Store and Forward Server

Integrated Solution for IP-based Video Acquisition

The Streambox® Store and Forward Server is part of the management layer of Streambox's IP-centric solutions and it plays an integral role in streamlining the broadcast work flow from beginning to end. The Server provides centralized management and search capabilities for field-generated video uploaded by field reporters, digital journalists, stringers, and citizen reporters affiliated with news organizations.

The Store and Forward Server is highly flexible and, depending on individual broadcaster needs, it can be customized to provide rule-based transcoding and batch transcoding to and from a variety of video formats.

A central feature of the Store and Forward Server is the easy-to-use web interface which enables operators to easily manage and monitor the status of video uploads. Each video clip is tagged with metadata information such as reporter name, file name, and location. This helps to better identify the source and subject of the video. The operator can also view thumbnails of incoming video and receive email notifications about active connections and video upload status.

Solution Overview
The Streambox® Store and Forward Server provides scalable support and management for hundreds of video clip uploads from a variety of users, either via the Streambox® Store and Forward Client or via HTTP uploads. The Server accepts field-generated video clip uploads in a variety of file formats and it provides automatic or on-demand transcoding of those clips depending on operator requirements.

An easy-to-use web interface enables the control room operator to monitor active connections and video uploads in real-time. Video clip thumbnails and metadata
provide additional information about individual video clips. This helps the operator gain greater control and visibility into the status of video uploads. Metadata and date/time stamps also enable the operator to search video clip uploads.

The Store and Forward Server facilitates improved management, monitoring and prioritization of field-edited files as they are uploaded to the Server from contributors such as field reporters, digital journalists, stringers, citizen reporters, or remote bureaus. The Store and Forward Server can also be integrated with existing broadcast equipment such as third party video servers, editing stations, and storage solutions.
