Error Messages

  1. I get the error, “Error in preparation of wave headers. An invalid parameter was passed to a system function.” during a Remote Desktop session on my Encoder. Now the Encoder application has crashed and won’t start, although restarting the Encoder fixes the problem. What caused that?

  2. My external monitor doesn't display Windows XP, it just has a blue box saying, "Out of Range - 85 Hz" (or similar). What causes that?

  3. My USB ports have stopped working. What's happened?


  1. I get the error, “Error in preparation of wave headers. An invalid parameter was passed to a system function.” during a Remote Desktop session on my Encoder. Now the Encoder application has crashed and won’t start, although restarting the Encoder fixes the problem. What caused that?
    This is caused by enabling remote audio in a Remote Desktop session. There’s no need to bring remote audio locally, since you can monitor audio from the final playback, so when initiating a Remote Desktop connection to the Encoder, ensure you have not enabled remote audio. This is found on the Local Resources tab under “Remote computer sound.”

    Note that the option “Bring to this computer” is enabled by default. Change this to “Leave at remote computer” before connecting to the Encoder or Decoder.

  2. My external monitor doesn't display Windows XP, it just has a blue box saying, "Out of Range - 85 Hz" (or similar). What causes that?
    Early models of the Streambox® ACT-L3™ Transport System shipped with display settings of 800x600 at 85 Hz refresh rate. Some monitors cannot sync up with this display rate and return a message similar to the above. To change this, perform the following steps:

    • With an external monitor, mouse and keyboard attached, restart the system in question and press F8 to start Windows XP in its Interactive Boot mode (Note that, on some Streambox® ACT-L3™ Transport System BIOS versions, F8 allows you to enter the system BIOS. Bypass this and press F8 again when Windows begins to start).
    • From the Interactive Boot menu, choose Safe Mode.
    • When you get to the Windows desktop, right-click the desktop and select Properties from the shortcut menu.
    • Click the Settings tab, then the Advanced button, then the Monitor tab.
    • Change the setting for "Screen refresh rate" to 60 Hz. Note that it will already show that you are at 60 Hz because you are in Safe Mode, but the system shipped with this setting at 85 Hz. Click on the dropdown, select 60 Hz again and apply that to the master Windows setting.
    • Click OK to every dialog box until you are back at the desktop, and restart the system.
    • The system should display properly in its normal operating mode now.

    This should not affect systems shipping after 1 July, 2004.

  3. My USB ports have stopped working. What's happened?
    This is a rare but known issue, and Streambox engineers are currently working on a solution. We will post more information here when it becomes available, but in the meantime the system will have to be powered off and back on in order to reset the USB port.

    Power down the system by pressing the blue button on the front of the unit, and it will power completely down within just a few seconds. Once the power light is out, press the power button again to restore power within 60-75 seconds.

    The USB port is only used for connecting a keyboard and mouse, and that is only required when changing the system TCP/IP address. During normal operation, most other settings can be changed from the front LCD panel of your Streambox system without the need for attaching a keyboard, mouse and monitor.
