30 ACT-L3™ Live Encoders Will Be Deployed For Front Line News Reporting Via Low Data-rate Satellite Phones

July 7, 2003 Seattle, WA – A world leader in news reporting has chosen the industry’s most efficient and advanced video compression technology, Streambox® ACT-L3™ Codec, for field deployment to their correspondents stationed all over the world. Streambox’s Advanced Compression Technology Level-3 (ACT-L3™) Codec is the next generation low bitrate video compressor that allows reporters to send higher quality videos in real-time at 64 Kbps and 128 Kbps and transmit the live videos via satellite phones to their headquarters in the U.S. The purchasing news organization wishes to remain unnamed.

Under the supply and development agreement Streambox will provide a site license for ACT-L3™ Codec, Apple QuickTimeTM version, and software to improve the QoS (quality of service) for live video delivery over satellite and wireless networks. The additional technology includes error correction, packet shaping to control overflow and software to dynamically manage available bandwidth.

Streambox ACT-L3™ Codec also is used in numerous real-time low bitrate applications where interlaced broadcast quality (Full D1, 60 fields, 30 fps @ 1.5 Mbps) and DVD quality (Full D1, 60 fields, 30 fps @ 3 Mbps) video is required and where low end-to-end video latency is mandatory. ACT-L3™ applications include TV broadcasting, satellite, Tele-medicine, wireless, video conferencing, film and video production and as well as desktop PC and Macintosh systems.
