The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) is a United States and Canada bi-national organization charged with the missions of aerospace warning, aerospace control, and maritime warning for North America.
This year we were informed the annual production in which the NORAD tracking center tracks the flight of Santa Claus is powered by Streambox. It is one of the largest non-military mobilizations of the year. Interviews and updates from the NORAD command center will be broadcasted live. They will also have feeds from various bases around the world.
The armed forces public affairs units use a Streambox kit for video streaming of speeches and other ceremonies. They stream video back to DVIDS, Defense Video Imagery Distribution System, a hub for video acquisition in Atlanta, which uses Enterprise Server and Decoders.
All of the kits (made by contractors such as Norsat and Encompass Digital Media) include a camera, a coverter box (Blackmagic Ultrastudio Mini Recorder), a Mac running Streambox Hybrid Software Encoder, and transmission equipment for satellite to capture video into the armed forces network and back to DVIDS.
