Streambox Receives Technical Emmy for LDMP Transport

At NAB 2019, Streambox received an Emmy® Award for Technology and Engineering in 2018 by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The award was granted to Streambox for their work on pioneering reliable transmission methodology for live contribution and distribution television links.

In 2011, Streambox introduced Low Delay Multi-Path (LDMP) technology to provide dynamic encoding adjustment for real-time video transport over multiple network types, assuring reliable video playout over unreliable WiFi, 3G, 4G, and wired public IP networks simultaneously with minimal latency. LDMP provides intelligent monitoring and utilization of accessible network paths to efficiently maximize available bandwidth and achieve higher rates of transport and playback with minimal 500 ms to around 1 second end-to end latency even over public Internet networks, at significantly lower bandwidth than other systems. Integrated support for network bonding means transport has additional reliability and redundancy.

In the past, a significant amount of real-time broadcast event coverage was restricted to expensive satellite connections or contending with 4 to 6 second delays using other networking connectivity, if and when available.

Broadcast applications such as remote news gathering, live news production, and live event contribution, Streambox have deployed LDMP technology on iPhones, iPads, personal computers, and hardware systems which can be connected to Cloud services to meet a wide range of requirements.

Streambox pioneered Cloud IP distribution of live media as well, which produced a dramatic decrease in latency and a substantial increase in reliability by providing enhanced first and last mile connectivity. Streambox Cloud Services distribution also uses LDMP for transport to any number of designated destinations around the world at high quality and low latency.

In conjunction with LDMP transport, Streambox systems offer end-to-end strong AES encryption with a symmetric key, forming a protective shield around the transport of valuable video content with no increase in stream latency.

Broadcasters are not the only ones to benefit from this exceptional technology. Business, HOW, Education, Public Safety, Defense, and Post-Production organizations also use Streambox solutions. Feature, trailer, advertising, or television production facilities use Streambox Chroma for collaborative applications including  live reviews, remote color grading, VFX creation, and editing.

Using Streambox technology and solutions offer users some key advantages for broadcast contribution and distribution, including the ability to work on networks they already use, the capability of streaming out to network locations, websites, and social media platforms simultaneously, and most importantly, the functionality of operating over standard public networks with high quality and low latency, even with limited bandwidth.

Streambox Delivers Better Pixels with 12-bit 4:4:4 RGB Color

By | Events & Media Coverage, Streambox Insider, Streambox Platform Solutions | No Comments
We are pleased to announce upcoming support for 12-bit 4:4:4 RGB color space for the Streambox Chroma encoders and decoders.
Both encoders and decoders have been designed for maximum flexibility.
The user can do 12 bit RGB in and out simplifying overall workflow with no compromise.
Monosnap 2018-03-31 09-52-59
If Display equipment does not support 12 bit, the user can select to down convert 12 bit to 10 bit on output.
Monosnap 2018-03-31 08-31-41
For low bitrate scenarios, users can select 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 encoding profiles while maintaining RGB on input and output via “Force RGB” option on decoder.
Note: 4:4:4 or 12 bit mode requires RGB signal.
For broadcast workflows, new encoder support 59.94 and 60 fps frame rates in 10-bit color space.
10 and 12-bit support is perfect match for HDR color grading in either RGB or 4:2:2 modes

Totsu Showcases Streambox Products at Inter BEE 2017

By | AVENIR Micro, Events & Media Coverage | No Comments

This week Totsu International, a Streambox partner, is taking part in the Broadcast Equipment Exhibition, the original name of Inter BEE. The Inter BEE exhibition first started in 1965 and has remained an annual event in Japan. This year Streambox is showcasing its newest products, including the new HD Rackmount and 2K Rackmount, as well as some of their popular products like the AVENIR Micro and 4K Rackmount.

Streambox‘s HD Rackmount provides secure, real-time, remote, collaborative workflows for broadcasters, enterprises and post production professionals. By providing low-latency, the rackmount is designed for reliable video streaming and collaboration over IP networks. With secure video encryption, studios are able to edit video in real-time with the rackmount which is a huge advantage for remote collaboration from any location.

The 2K Rackmount provides secure and remote color grading for post production professionals with an easy 30 Minute Networking Setup and Use for Playout Management. Streambox has introduced a new feature called an “upgrade path” for both 2K and HD rackmounts. For 2K rackmounts you are able to upgrade to 4K, 4K with 12G, 444 Color and 2K Stereo Video. The upgrade path works to keep Streambox products “future proof”, with the ability to upgrade to the newest hardware and software with ease, making it remarkably cost effective.

A cloud-based video management system, the Streambox Cloud, is also a featured service at the event. The Cloud is able to push or pull live streams on either side of a firewall and archive live video for later use. All Streambox products are compatible with Streambox Cloud, including the AVENIR Micro. The Micro is a mobile video encoder that fits in the palm of your hand and can send live video straight to the Cloud.

Seattle Mayor Ed Murray Broadcasts Live with Streambox

By | AVENIR Mini, Broadcast, Events & Media Coverage, Government & Military, Live Events, Streambox Platform Solutions | No Comments

Mayor Ed Murray delivers a special presentation of the 2017 State of the City address from Idris Mosque using Streambox, highlighting how Seattle is moving forward as a welcoming city that is building greater affordability, opportunity and equity for all residents.

The city of Seattle used AVENIR Mini to broadcast live footage of Ed Murrays city address. Designed for broadcasters, the Streambox Avenir Mini is a small form factor, lightweight encoder with integrated network bonding that replaces the need for microwave and satellite trucks at a fraction of the cost.

Using proprietary technology, the device continuously monitors and selects the best possible pathway from all available networks, including 3G/4G/LTE, Wi-Fi and other IP networks, so you get consistent SD and HD streaming with outstanding quality.

The stream was then decoded by Streambox 9200 RackmountThe scalable encoder lets you encode, transport reliable video over public internet and play out live video at a fraction of the cost vs competing encoders requiring higher cost MPLS or dedicated networks for reliable video contribution.
