One of Asia’s premiere broadcast equipment retailers, Totsu International, will be featuring Streambox products at the International Broadcast Equipment Exhibition (Inter BEE) 2016 Wednesday, November 16th through Friday, November 18th.

Totsu International will be demonstrating and exhibiting Streambox Avenir Micro and Drone mobile encoders, NDI Player, Tricaster Add-on, 4K Encoder/Decoder, and Cloud to an expected 36,000 visitors from 32 countries.

Streambox Avenir Micro and Drone are modular and stackable mobile encoders for transmitting SD and full HD low-latency video over bonded 3G, 4G, WiFi, ethernet, SNG, DNG, BGAN, VSAT satellite, and internet networks. Designed for easy integration and outstanding quality, the miniature, low-power devices support HDR video and can be used with HD-SDI and HDMI cameras. The Avenir encoders can be used for streaming live events, public safety video, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) video, and various other video applications.

Streambox NDI Player allows users to seamlessly receive and decode live video from any Streambox encoder to a compatible NDI receiver. NDI allows multiple video systems to identify and communicate with one another over IP for encoding, transmitting, and receiving many streams of high quality, low latency, frame-accurate video and audio in real-time.

The Tricaster Add-on allows Streambox users to directly stream live HD/SD video at resolutions up to 1080p from any Streambox encoder (both hardware and software) into a TriCaster production system.

Streambox 4K Rackmount Encoder/Decoder is designed for low-bandwidth high quality 4K UHD video encoding, transmission, and playout of either live or file-based SD, HD, or UHD video over IP networks. This reduces broadcast costs while maintaining high-performance and reliability for professionals working with the highest quality video available today.

Streambox Cloud is a secure, end-to-end service for encoding, routing, archiving, transcoding, management, and playout for live videos. Cloud Services includes free software Cloud encoders, apps, and media players, a globally distributed server network, video routing tools, management and metadata software, and native integration with Facebook and YouTube, all for both live and archived video.

Case Study: Gospel Channel

Gospel Channel, a Christian TV station in Iceland, needed to send high quality video between its US and Scandinavian studios via a 4 Mbps connection. Using a Streambox AVENIRMicro, with it’s low bandwidth consumption, reliable point-to-point connections, high quality image, and low cost transmissions over Streambox Cloud Services was the perfect solution.

Gospel Channel was the first station in Scandinavia to broadcast Christian content. Now, after 24 years on air, from their studios in Iceland, Norway, and Florida, Gospel Channel can reach 80% of Iceland’s population through terrestrial transmitters and cable systems as well as 12 million homes in the UK, Ireland, and Scotland through satellite.

gospel1At first, being constrained to 4 Mbps bandwidth, Gospel Channel struggled to establish good connectivity for their studio in Orlando, Florida. Instead of resorting to costly ways to improve their network, Gospel Channel used Streambox to deliver the high quality video they needed at a lower bandwidth using the AVENIRMirco mobile encoder and Streambox Cloud Services.

The AVENIRMirco video encoder compresses incoming video with a proprietary codec: Advanced Compression Technology – Level 3 (ACT-L3). ACT-L3 is optimized for efficiency, low bandwidth, and high video fidelity. In addition, Streambox employs Low Delay Multi-Path technology (LDMP) which automatically maintains the best possible bandwidth, latency, and resolution over multiple IP networks. The combination of ACT-L3 and LDMP in the small AVENIRMicro footprint provided Gospel Channel a method to deliver its ministries, talks shows, and music programs even where network bandwidth was not optimal.

gospel2Gospel Channel uses Streambox Cloud for stream management as well. The Streambox Cloud management capabilities have been very important in coordinating the time differences between Florida, Norway, and Iceland. Gospel Channel also uses point-to-point Cloud Encoder software whenever they need an extra video stream, keeping their system robust and malleable to changing needs.

Since Gospel Channel uses the NewTek Tricaster they implemented the free Streambox TriCaster add-on to simplify their operations. With the TriCaster add-on, Gospel Channel can stream live HD/SD video at resolutions up to 1080p directly from Streambox encoders into the TriCaster production system. The TriCaster add-on is ideal for Gospel Channel as they stream live multi-cam productions from Florida, Iceland, and Norway over 3G/4G/WiFi/ethernet networks.

gospel3Gospel Channel looked for a solution that worked for their present needs and that would be sustainable in the future. Currently, Gospel Channel has no video on demand, but this is something that it wants to implement in the near future as well as move to all HD content (which is currently not practical due to satellite restrictions).

Gospel Channel has been a Streambox customer since 2010 owing to the value and reliability of Streambox streaming technologies. Streambox support has assisted the Gospel Channel throughout the entire process: all information and presets were provided, which Gospel Channel said made implementation “a plug and live solution.” Gospel Channel has been kept up to date with all the newest Streambox developments; they were the first Scandinavian company to deploy AVENIRMirco in 2015 and will soon start streaming live to YouTube and Facebook. Streambox’s simple operations and low cost has enabled Gospel Channel the ability to produce more live content and engage with more viewers, providing a great return on investment.

Live Concert on Facebook

Ten Miles Wide will be using Streambox Cloud and AVENIRMicro to live stream their album release show Saturday, July 16th, 2016, live from Neumos to Facebook.

Live video is the best way to be seen on Facebook with Facebook prioritizing live video on top of News Feed and people watching live videos three times more than when file-based and commenting 10 times more on than on regular videos.

Facebook Live is already a powerful tool by itself, but Streambox Cloud makes it a viable tool for bands that wants to reliably stream high quality live performances for only $99/month.

El Pais

Streambox solutions for New Media

El Pais is the highest circulation daily print newspaper in Spain and currently leading the digital market as well. Digital El Pais has been online and expanding globally since 1996 with its strongest presence in Europe and Latin America.

With a focus on accessibility, content on demand, and immediate news delivery New Media is reaching millions of people on a daily basis. Digital publications can engage users through interactive participation so they are becoming immediate, informative, and intelligent platforms for discussion and debate. This is all gaining New Media influence and making it strong competition for traditional broadcast media.

The AVENIRMicro encoder and Streambox Cloud Services can facilitate the broadcasting process for organizations beginning to introduce live streaming. These low cost solutions allow organizations to create an online channel in a few easy steps and provide the highest quality video contribution for live reports, newsgathering, sports, and events. Using any Streambox encoder with Cloud Services allows users to stream to most CDN platforms, embed the video on their website, share, or stream directly to YouTube and Facebook.

In 2016, a new Spanish general election was held due to the inability to establish a government after the December 2015 election. During this intense political period in Spain, El Pais produced a series of live broadcasts around the electoral campaign called “En Campaña”. The culmination of this series came on election night, June 26, with a live program over five hours long.

MADCO Broadcasting Services, was in charge of providing the setup for the series as well as managing the election night program for El Pais. They used a Streambox AVENIRMicro to provide live broadcasts from the field where reporters delivered breaking news from polling stations and political parties’ headquarters. The AVENIRMicro was enhanced with a USB Modem and Battery Module allowing the camera crew to connect 4 USB modems for a 3G/4G connection and hot swappable batteries for continuous streaming.

Many streaming applications available do not provide the high quality and low latency video today’s online viewer expects. Streambox’s triple play video streaming uses the ACT-L3 AP codec and Low Delay Multi-Path (LDMP) technology to transport broadcast quality video with bonded wireless and wired IP networks over a variety of changing bandwidth conditions for reliable delivery. MADCO’s AVENIRMicro was equipped with 4 USB modems, however, only two of them were needed to achieve sufficient bandwidth for HD streaming thanks to Streambox’s proprietary technology.

The original plan for the election night coverage was to establish a point-to-point connection with a Streambox 9200 decoder in the master control room. When MADCO ran into a firewall issue at the last minute they used Streambox Cloud Services, allowing them to play the incoming stream directly from the Cloud Server, using the same rackmount, but avoiding the port connection.

MADCO was very satisfied with the results, CEO Oscar Hidalgo said, “Streambox was the perfect solution for our needs on the 26 June Spanish night election. Knowing that connectivity conditions on the field would not be the most favorable for us, we could connect live insertions in a suitable moment without any problem. With a friendly and easy to use interface, it was a great help to us during the five hour live program.”
