The free Streambox Cloud Encoder, has built in networking automation, and advanced video compression technology. The encoder is deployed and used widely by many leading broadcasters and video professionals for live video newsgathering, video contributions, and streaming. This free software encoder is designed for Apple notebooks, and gives users the ability to deliver high-quality HD/SD and 360 video from the field. The encoder uses bonded Wi-Fi, 3G/4G, Satellite and Internet networks for reliable high-quality video.

All it takes is a Mac laptop or desktop, a camera, and a SDI or HDMI input device, such as Matrox, AJA, or Black Magic to capture video.

You Have Questions, We Have Answers

1) It appears that the “cloud encoder” maxes out at 5000kbps or so for the trial. Is this correct or am I doing something wrong?

  • Yes, correct.

2) Can the encoder do 1080p 29.97? (noticed it only does 1080i in the cloud encoder trial)

  • No, the software encoder does not support 1080p.  It does support 1080psf at 23.98, 24, and possibly 29.97/30.

3) With my basic tests with the cloud encoder I was still getting an average latency of about 28 seconds when viewing it online… can this get any faster and is there any way for me to see it?

  • Using Reliable mode, gives the best quality at around 30 seconds latency.  However, using Head or Action mode will cut that time way down to around 2.5-3 sec latency.

4) Is there any way to demo a hybrid encoder stream directly to a streambox media player or app? We’d really love to see a low latency high bit rate stream in action and see if it would work for us?

  • If you have a demo key for the software, you can stream to the media player.
